System Overview
Envir-O-Cell ™, owned by Ecochem Pumps (Pty) Ltd, is a safe and
simple electrolytic process for the on-site generation of Sodium
Hypochlorite solution through the electrolysis of a brine solution.
A 3% brine solution is made up in a batch tank by dissolving 30g of
NaCl (Salt) per litre of potable water.
The Envir-O-Cell ™ is placed into the brine solution and the timer is
set to the required reaction period. The cell is energised via the
transformer / rectifier for the set time period. The DC current supplied
to the cell causes the dissociation of the brine solution resulting in the
formation of chlorine, in the form of Sodium Hypochlorite and the
production of Hydrogen as a by product which is safely vented to
atmosphere.
The electrical circuitry is protected by a circuit breaker.
Should load shedding occur during the production cycle, when the
power supply is restored, the electronic timer is simply restarted to
complete the remaining batch preparation time (timing is not lost or
erased when a power failure occurs).
The total hardness (TaH) of the potable water used to produce the
batches of Sodium Hypochlorite will vary from area to area. Scaling
(Calcium and Magnesium deposits) will occur on the cell at different
rates depending on the total hardness of the water in the area and
frequency of use of the cell. For this reason, it is vital that periodic
inspection and cleaning of the cell with Acetic Acid (Vinegar) is
undertaken. The cleaning process is quick and simple.
The technology is manufactured and supported locally requiring no
MHI assessment or certification for site installation and is of a robust
design accounting for the challenges of local conditions.
The principle, and modular nature of Enivr-O-Cell ™, allows for
installation that is quick and efficient and operation that is both user
friendly and safe. Disinfectant is produced on demand using readily
available raw materials.
